Essay on Argo Government Relationships - 2065 Words

Perlman; 139w Paper Assignment #3 Media texts are created from past events that have occurred and often times Hollywood would try and manipulate the event so it represents the past and the reception it gets through different communities. The film Argo (2012) is no exception trying to show a â€Å"Hollywoodize† event of the Iranian Hostage Crisis which received mixed receptions and is controversial on how the event is portrayed. The film is often criticized for the authenticity and accuracy of how the event is portrayed; the film directed by Ben Affleck chose to add â€Å"drama† and manipulate the actual event in order to obtain a wider audience. With the film involving a variety of government during the hostage crisis, the film focuses only†¦show more content†¦During the protest scene of the citizens trying to break into the United States Embassy had intercuts of a perspective of an individual in the mob. This gives a sense of authenticity because the quality of the recordi ng is similar to a hand-held camera that stands out from the rest of the film sequence. Within the film sequence the film viewer can see how Affleck approach the topic with intercuts as the tension builds in Tehran and back in the U.S. trying to successful pull off an operation in the government. The film received great reception as a good film getting good reviews, but to some critics it becomes a question why did the film perform so well in the U.S.? According to a criticism in the New York Times by Stanley Fish â€Å"The ‘Argo’ Caper† mentions on how the presentation of the narrative approaches an improbable task Affleck’s character has to overcome (Fish). The narrative and concept of a caper film, which caper means that the task is pulled off with a â€Å"combination of ingenuity, training, deception and luck† (Fish). The critic is trying to show the reception the film received is built on the tension in the film because that dramatization of th e escape is events that towards the end of the film where suspense build up where seven Americans are pulled off to the side in the airport and is being questioned about leaving.
